There are loads of reasons why blogging is a great idea. If you're a pastor, a must-read is this from the Desiring God (John Piper) gang.
I will not bore you with all the reasons I am committed to blogging, but I want to give one:
Even if no one out there ever becomes a "follower" or moderately regular reader of what I write, I will have a form of written legacy for my wife and children -- a window into the spiritual and theological heart of their dad/husband. They will see, hopefully, how Jesus took a lump of crud and made it into His image by His indescribably wonderful atoning work on the cross. Gospel. Grace. Can there be any two words that are more. . . well, there are no words. Just quiet tears of gratitude.

When my daddy passed away five years ago, I soon realized that his personal keepsakes quickly became my keepsakes. In my Bible today safely rests a small worn piece of paper found in Daddy's wallet. It gives this heartfelt "shout out" to the LORD: "O Lord, I am oppressed; undertake for me"--bolstered by several scripture quotes from Isaiah, Psalms, and I Peter. On numerous occasions I would find Daddy quietly rocking in his favorite chair--staring at this piece of paper. Towards the end, Daddy was a very sick man enduring lots of pain, but he gained strength from this little piece of paper--his reminder of a God who is our "Rock" our "Shelter" our "High Tower" our "Strength" and our "Refuge." Obviously, Daddy did not know the joys of blogging. . . he would have loved Facebook. . . but any small token of his thoughtful meditations here on earth continue on as my treasure trove. Daddy not only taught us how to live. . . but how to die with grace. Of all the reasons to blog, Tom, you in my opinion have hit upon the most desired, the most lasting--a legacy of thought and meditation upon which your family can feast long after you are gone.
